Sneak Peek

Hi all!

Okay here is what I have been working on. This piece took a lot of time and detail and I am pretty happy with the way it turned out. You are the first to see it, I've not listed it yet :)

I first drew little birds onto the brass and etched it...I forgot that I left it in the solution and jolted awake last night and ran to get it out.  So this morning I was bound and determined to fix the problem I had created.  So I then drew another bird and hand cut it out with my saw.  I then made the rivets to attach it to the leather and voila!

Until next time!

Etsy Front Page!

Hi Everyone!

My little vials hit front page on Etsy this evening!  Here is a screen shot.  What a great end to a long day:)

Time To Bake And Cook Up A Storm

Hi Everyone!

I just shipped off the last order that came in from the Etsy Finds feature. It feels so nice to have it all done.  So because I feel like I have completely neglected my family I am trying very hard to make up for it.  So on the menu for tonight is good old fashioned potato salad to go with homemade gumbo!  The Lawlar crew LOVES gumbo.  So I am about to start the rue but before I go I thought I would share dessert with you.

Did you ever have a Dinky Doozie?  Or if you were lucky enough to have a metabolism to support a Double Doozie?  Well here in Juneau we don't have a Mrs. Sally Fields Cookies in the Mall so I thought I would show my kids what they are missing and baked up a batch this afternoon.

We made chocolate chip cookies and then made butter cream frosting to go in the middle.  Just looking at them will make you gain 10 pounds so beware:)

Until next time!

Fish...It's What's For Dinner/ Lawlar Crew...It's Whats For Dinner (In the minds of the mosquitoes)

Hi All!

I hope you had a great weekend and are ready to get back to the daily grind.   One thing living in Alaska has created in our family is a bunch of fishing monsters.  Guaranteed today it's sunny and I will have 3 kids begging to go fishing.  On Saturday we spent the entire day fishing, caught a pretty big one and lots of little ones we let go.  Then we had the adventurous idea to hike up Kowee Creek and fish way back in there.

I kid you not, I would bet money that in mosquito language, when we walked in the woods dinner bells started alarming and mosqitos started screaming "TIME TO EAT!"  We got so bit up, when we finally reached where we wanted to fish none of us was really in the mood, so back we trekked to the bridge where we caught one more fish before we called it quits.  Then we headed home to bath in After Bite.

The mosquitoes here are awful, I never thought mosquitoes could get worse than the ones back in Wyoming but I was very wrong, Alaska mosquitoes are 10 times worse....and bigger too.  As my husband nicely put it, "I don't think I have any more blood for the mosquitoes to take."

Here are some more pictures of various things from the weekend.  I am not fishing this year, so I take pictures and keep the fire going for smores.  Even though we live and work here I am not considered a resident until I have lived here for a full year, and I refuse to spend 150 dollars on a fishing license so I'm patiently waiting until the first of the year....then I'll get a license, until that time you will have to put up with my artsy fartsy photography:)

Reuben thinks I make a good bench :)

Until next time!

Wakey Wakey Eggs and Bakey

Hi All!

I took this picture of Reuben last night, and it came out blurry because he was actually attempting to catch bugs with his  mouth, so camera blur did occur.  But as I was looking at it this morning it reminded me of that just barely awake stage and what it must look like to have your furry pooch hovering over you waiting impatiently for you to come to and get him his breakfast or let him out to potty.   Anyway, it was just my funky Thursday morning thought :)

Enjoy!

New Men's Line Coming in July!

Hi All,

I am currently working on an exclusive Steampunk Funk Men's line that I will debut in July.  Some of the men's work I have in the shop will be apart of that line.  Here is a new piece I made and listed yesterday.  If you have any ideas/or thoughts I would love to hear from you.  Some questions I would be interested in having your opinion on are:

1.  What you would like to see in the Men's line?

2.  Is there a specific style you would be interested in seeing...Rustic, Urban, Geeky?

3.  The biggest question I would love everyone's opinion on is, should I open a new shop just for the men's line or just create a section in my shop for men's items?

I'm struggling with question 3.  It has taken me a lot of time and effort to get Steampunk Funk off the ground and I wonder if I have the time and energy to devote to a second shop.   Do any of you have more than one shop?  Do you notice an increased work load?    I would love to hear from you!

Until then,

Brown Pigeon

Hey All!

I purchased a custom, handmade stamp from a wonderful Etsy shop called Brown Pigeon  for my logo.    After the fantastic experience there is no way I would go through anyone else.  She did such a superb job and I think all will agree that it looks stinking sweet!   So if you ever need stamps, or a custom logo stamp be sure to check out her shop.  She has great prices and styles combined with fantastic customer service.

 Enjoy!

A Rockstar Crew!

Hey All!

Over the weekend we took a friend that happened to be in town on an adventurous biking/hiking expedition.   That trip was all together 10 miles, all three of our kids aged 11, 9 and 6 made the trip in serious rock star style.  I was amazed at their stamina.   Then yesterday we hiked the West Glacier trail and went 6 miles, and some of the terrain was less than idea...seriously, we are talking hand over hand climbing.    Again all three kids made the journey look like a cake walk.

I am a little sore today and they on the other hand are bouncing off walls:)  Oh how nice it would be to have all that energy again, I think about all I could get done in a day.    I love raising outdoor kids that won't let a little rain dampen their day!

Enjoy!

New Men's Wedding/Anniversary Band

Hey All!

Here is a new piece I have made that is now in the shop and has already sold once.   It is a custom made to order ring that I have constructed from an antique barn nail, hand made brass rivets and textured brass that I attached with hand made copper rivets.    The price reflects the time and detail that goes into the piece.  Enjoy!

Off The Map and Jimmy Rigged Sneakers

Hi all!

Yesterday we went on a biking/hiking excursion that took us off the map in the great wilderness of Alaska.   Not to worry, we carry our trusty SPOT and cell phone gps tracking system :)  Along the way our youngest kiddo's shoe fell apart and we had to get creative in order for him to continue the "journey" as he likes to call it.

I took some photos of the beautiful flowers that have been popping up in and around Juneau.

And the last three photos are just some pics of all of our recent expeditions.   I hope you all are having a fantastic summer so far and have a great rest of the weekend.

Don't forget to call Dad and wish him a Happy Father's Day!

New Treasury!

Fishing And Hiking and Bears Oh My!

Hi All!

So it's been a week or so since I last posted.  The Lawlar crew has enjoyed fishing, hiking, biking, bears, swimming, lounging on the beach...wait a minute, did I say bears?  Why yes I did,  bears have been out and about and we have seen tons, but this was the one we came the closest to.  Don't worry, we were in the truck...he just happened to be right by the door.

This guy is not nearly as big as some of the ones we have been seeing but he was big enough for me to want to stay safely in my truck:)
Enjoy!

Little Crooked Houses made Front Page!

Hey All!

My series of Little Crooked Houses made the front page of Etsy today because of a beautiful treasury compiled by Made By Sunflower.  I was parked tail end on the beach but thanks to Rayana and her text from With The Rain I was able to see it on my iphone.  Here is a screen shot of it.
