Fly By The Seat Of Her Pants Girl Meets Excel Loving Must Have A Plan Boy

Hi Everyone!

Remember those LG magazine ads with two people who looked to be polar opposites standing side by side that read something like Mr. Science meets Ms. Fashionista? That is Rusty and I. Only ours would say Mr. Excel Loving Spreadsheet Boy meets Ms. Free Spirit Feet First Girl.   To say that we are opposite personalities would be stating the obvious.  But after 11 years of marriage we still make it work...that and our morals and bottom line beliefs are spot on the same.

This adoption process so far has really shown me how very different we each handle situations.  Rusty is the kind of guy who dips a toe in the  pool then pulls out his spreadsheet to document the water temp, depth and ratio of people in the pool to amount of water in the pool and I am that girl that flies past him and jumps in, cannon ball style and thinks about the consequences afterwards.

I have always said, I give Rusty wings and he keeps me grounded.  Both of our personal characteristic's work together to form a very well balanced relationship.  Over the years we (mostly me, because he already was) have really grown into "planners."  We like to have a plan and stick with it.  We like to know what is going to happen and when it is going to happen.  This whole adoption process is going stretch us in the patience and planning category.

I've read countless times that once the dossier is submitted it is out of our control, that it's one big waiting game, travel time comes abruptly and how long you are actually there (in Ethiopia) can fluctuate.  These are all things that make both Rusty and I panic and start to get clammy.  Then the other day a saying popped into mind.

It's not about waiting for the storm to pass
It's about learning to dance in the rain

While adoption is not a storm for us, it is one big waiting, out of our control game.  So while we wait I think I will blast Lincoln Brewster's Everlasting God song through the speakers and recite Isaiah 40:31 over and over until our girl is home.
