Hi everyone!
So in 2 weeks and 3 days Rusty and I will be running a marathon. We've been training since February. On Sunday morning we did our longest run until the marathon...20 miles. We completed it in 3 hours and 5 min. With that time we are looking at roughly a 4 hour marathon. That's right were I wanted to be.
To say I'm nervous would be a gross understatement. I'm terrified. Running that far of a distance is no walk in the park. It's painful and long and takes a lot of mental training. But I know we can complete it. We have been using Hal Higgdon's Novice 1 training program and following it religiously. It's been tough, joints hurt, knees and ankles get swollen after the really long runs but I think the end result is worth it. It's just another checkmark off the list.
So for this past week this is how much we have run
Wednesday-12 miles and p90x stretching
Thursday-1 hour on the Elliptical and p90x stretching
Friday-Rest Day with p90x stretching
Saturday-P90x stretching
Sunday-20 miles and then p90x stretching
Monday-rest day
Tuesday-5 miles and light stretching
Today-8 miles and p90x stretching
We have entered our "Taper" down segment of training. We are working on resting up for the big day. We will run another 5 miles tomorrow then rest Friday and 12 miles Saturday, then cross train Sunday. The long runs will become shorter and shorter until the big day. All of our training and dedication has been leading up to July 28th.
My parents will be in town so I'll have my Dad take pictures on race day :)
